Woman holding a fish during a Leech Lake retreat

Summer fishing on Leech Lake is a different game. Fish are active, spread across a massive lake, and the winter tactics won’t work.

Walleye

Push to 18–28 feet during the day. Trolling cranks along weed edges at dusk. Lindy rig with nightcrawler in 22 feet is the Leech Lake classic.

Muskie

Large weed flats, deep drop-offs. Bucktails and swimbaits 8–12 inches. Figure-eight at the boat every cast.

Bass & panfish

Shallow bays for largemouth with topwater at first light. Crappie near submerged timber.

Why the cabin matters

Wake up on the water. Your own dock and boat lift. Fish when fish are biting, not when checkout forces you off the lake.
